Candace Cameron Bure says she senses a movement of God across America and even in Hollywood, where actors and entertainers who once kept their faith private are no longer afraid to speak openly about it.
Bure is one of Hollywood’s most well-known Christians in her current role as Chief Creative Officer of Great American Media, the parent company of Great American Family and Great American Pure Flix. She first became a household name as D.J. Tanner on Full House before emerging as one of Hallmark Channel’s most recognizable stars, before transitioning to Great American Media in 2022.
“I very much feel that revival is here,” she told Fox News’ Shannon Bream in Washington, D.C., as she participated in the America Reads the Bible initiative. “This is historic.”
God’s Word, she said, transformed her faith journey.
“The Bible really changed my life. I mean, of course, the gospel of Jesus Christ changed my life, but I hate to admit how many times I have started and stopped reading the Bible in my life. So if I've been a Christian since I was 12 years old – I didn't actually read the entire Bible chronologically, within a year, until about six years ago, five years ago.”
Reading through the Bible from beginning to end gave her a deeper understanding of God’s character, she said.
“And to read the Bible, and look for God from start to finish, and to see the overarching view of God's love for us, His patience – I think that's the biggest thing I got out of it, is how patient God is. He's waiting for all of us. He's like, ‘Come on, I'm giving you more time, I'm giving you more time, come to Me, hear My voice.’”
Bure grew up in the public eye, starring on Full House from age 10 to 18.
“Faith was always a part of my life and my upbringing, and so I never shied away from it, but I also didn't know that that could be something that could turn people off or away or be a hindrance. I just didn't know,” she told Fox News. “So, with the childlike faith, I'm like, ‘This is who I am, and this is what I love, and I love Jesus.’”
Life as a mother reshaped her priorities.
“I took a 10-year break out of the industry, came back in my 30s, and I had – during those 10 years – really dove into the Bible, and my faith was so strengthened because I was a new mom. I wanted to know who God was, so that I could teach my kids. I wanted to pass it down, I wanted to be able to cultivate a relationship or help them cultivate a relationship in their life with God – and I thought to myself, ‘Wow, God, you've given me an opportunity that some people don't have. … Now I want to know everything.’ And so I'm going to make movies and preach the gospel. I'm going to share stories and preach the gospel.”
Bure said she also has noticed a growing openness among people in Hollywood who previously kept their faith hidden.
“Having been in the industry for 45 years, I've seen so many people that I had no idea were believers or just people of faith in general – because they hid it for so long, and then on the side, they would always come up to me and say, ‘Hey, I'm on your team.’ But it was a secret [so] they had to whisper it. And I feel like it's people don't feel as hindered anymore, and I'm grateful for that.”
