Mother's Day

Our moms are amazing people in our lives. Personally, my mom was the beacon light of my life. When she passed away, my life permanently changed. There were no more hugs after a school day, no celebrations on birthdays, and no words of encouragement after you failed a test. In my pain, God met me. I miss my mom every day, yet I can still honor her through memory.
Perhaps you are a new mom or want to honor your own mom. Rather than overlooking yourself or other moms in your life, choose to turn to the Bible. The Bible can help moms feel valued, loved, and needed. God’s Word contains only the truth; therefore, there is no reason to doubt it. For example, when the Bible says we are God’s children (1 John 3:1), then it means we are genuinely the children of God.
Abandon any negative thoughts and challenge yourself to see yourself as God sees you. You are a beloved mom, a strong sister, and a wonderful wife. Allow God's Word to lift you today. Here are 7 Bible verses to encourage and honor moms.
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well” (Psalm 139:13-14).
You are fearfully and wonderfully made. What does this mean in your own life? Are you fully taking hold of this blessing? You were not created carelessly; instead, God created you with purpose. The woman He created you to be is a woman and mom who is strong, brave, and independent. Trust in God and allow Him to shape who you are rather than the voices of the world.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).
What are the voices in your head currently telling you? Are they saying you are a mistake? Sadly, many of us struggle with this thought. Rather than feeding into it, we must remind ourselves that we are God’s handiwork. The New Living Translation says we are God’s masterpiece. Take this truth in for a moment.
You are God’s handiwork, masterpiece, and craftsmanship. This paints the picture that you are beautiful, amazing, and wonderful. Never doubt your worth in God’s eyes. He has special plans for your life. You cannot take hold of these plans if you continue to feel negatively about yourself; this is why you must step out in faith.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Trust in what He says about you, not the world. Changing your perspective to reflect upon God rather than the lies of the world can radically change your life and equip you to become the woman and mom God created you to be.
3. Song of Songs 4:7
“You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you” (Song of Songs 4:7).
As women, it is incredibly common for us to feel negatively about ourselves due to our appearance. I used to struggle with the way my nose looked. It looked different from others, which automatically made me think it was ugly. I had to grow in Christ before I fully embraced my appearance. God says I am beautiful just as I am – and He says the same about you.
Song of Songs 4:7 displays this truth to us; we are beautiful in the eyes of God. At the end of the day, God’s opinion of us is the only one that matters. Rather than listening to insults from others, we must rely on what God says. Since he says we are beautiful, then we are beautiful. What an amazing blessing it is to know our Lord and Savior!
“Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’ So God created humankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:26-27).
In the beginning, God created man and woman. Despite the patriarchal world we live in, God never said men are superior to women. God created men and women equal, as we are both made in God's image. Don't listen to the lies of the world that say you are not good enough, cannot do things as well as men, or were created only for the purpose of getting married and having children. God says you are enough, you can do amazing things, and He created you with a greater purpose.
You are created directly in the image of God. This means you reflect His creativity, character, and heart. Find joy and encouragement in this truth when you feel weak and weary. God doesn't want you to think you are less than others because He created everyone equally. We are all created by the same God, and we are beloved in His eyes (Romans 8:37-39).
5. Esther 4:14
“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14).
God created you with a special purpose, just as He did with Esther. Don't run from your purpose, run towards it. Use the blessings, gifts, talents, and abilities the Lord gave you to serve Him. Allow this truth to encourage and honor you.
“For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority” (Colossians 2:9-10).
Whenever we struggle with not feeling good enough, we must reflect upon the Word of God. From Colossians 2:9-10, we understand that we are complete in Christ. This means we are not lacking anything. Therefore, there is no reason to believe we are not good enough, as we are complete in Christ. Anyone or anything that tries to tell us otherwise is a liar. You are an amazing mom, wife, and friend.
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7).
What emotions are you currently experiencing? Fear, doubt, or insecurity? Transform these feelings by the Word of God. From the moment you placed faith in Jesus, the Holy Spirit has indwelt inside you. The Holy Spirit does not bring negative feelings into your heart; instead, He gives you power, love, and self-discipline.
Lean into the guidance of the Holy Spirit and find joy in His presence. Whenever you are struggling, talk with Him and ask for His help. Don't underestimate what the Holy Spirit can do in your life. He will encourage you, equip you with strength, and ensure you grow in Christ.
