At Applewood Baptist Church, Pastor Derek’s heart behind developing a preaching team is rooted in a desire to faithfully proclaim God’s Word while nurturing the unique gifts God has given to others within the body. Throughout church history, the pulpit has been a tool for discipleship. He believes that the pulpit is not meant to elevate one individual, but to magnify Christ through the consistent, Spirit-led preaching of Scripture. By inviting other godly, gifted men who are committed to expository preaching to share the platform—whether on Sunday mornings or during our radio program, humility and biblical leadership are modeled. This team approach ensures that the congregation and listeners are fed a steady diet of truth from multiple voices, all united around the authority of God’s Word.
Pastor Derek sees this model as a way to raise up the next generation of preachers, to develop and encourage those called to teach, and to protect the long-term health and sustainability of gospel ministry at Applewood.
